· India · Indian Express, The Hindu

Two more bodies were recovered from separate locations in Uttarkashi district on Thursday, taking the death toll to six in the Kedartal avalanche rescue operation. Rintu Mandal (40) and Uday Ghosh (30), residents of Salbani in West Bengal's Bankura district, were identified among the recovered bodies. A joint team of the State Disaster Response Force and Nehru Institute of Mountaineering conducted the search operation that concluded at 3:30 pm. Two trekkers remain missing as a fresh search operation is scheduled for Friday. The incident occurred after a 12-member expedition set out from Gangotri for the Kedartal trek on October 27.

Why it matters

The families of Rintu Mandal and Uday Ghosh have lost their loved ones, and two other trekkers remain unaccounted for, adding to the grief of the six-member expedition party. The ongoing rescue operation faces difficult terrain and challenging weather conditions that have hampered search efforts.
