Two priests were burnt to death on a temple premises in Uttar Pradesh's Shahjahanpur district on Thursday morning. Police identified the victims as Gopal Das, 70, and Bihari Das, 60, who lived at the temple in Sootha village under the Khudaganj police station jurisdiction. Shahjahanpur Superintendent of Police Saurabh Dixit said police detained a local man named Sumit and are questioning him over allegations that he killed the priests to grab temple property. Villagers reported that the suspect regularly visited the temple and had been pressuring the victims to leave the premises. Police recovered remains for an autopsy and collected forensic evidence from the scene as investigations continue.
