Two women died after undergoing caesarean sections at Bundi’s District Women’s Hospital in Rajasthan, with their bodies transferred to private hospitals in Kota where they succumbed to complications. The operating theatre at Bundi’s facility has been temporarily sealed, and infection-control measures are underway following the deaths. This follows a series of maternal deaths in Rajasthan’s government hospitals, including five in Kota in May, eight in Jodhpur in June, and cases in Bhilwara, Banswara, and Bikaner in July, totaling 19 deaths between May and July. Kavita Kumawat (32) from Tonk and Varsha Sain (28) from Bundi were admitted on September 15 and died the next day after being shifted to Kota. Investigations have not yet identified a common cause, but procedural lapses and infection risks are under scrutiny.
