· India · The Hindu, Hindustan Times
The Uttar Pradesh Cabinet on Friday approved renaming the Noida International Airport at Jewar as 'Narendra Modi International Airport, Noida-Jewar'. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath stated the Council of Ministers was grateful to Prime Minister Modi for the airport, which he called a major gift to Uttar Pradesh. The airport is set to become the state's largest and is poised to emerge as the nation's largest aviation hub. Adityanath highlighted U.P.'s infrastructure progress, citing 42 national highways spanning 2,483 km built at a cost of approximately ₹60,000 crore. He also mentioned the completion of key expressways including the Delhi-Saharanpur-Dehradun, Delhi-Meerut, and Kanpur-Lucknow routes.
Why it matters
The renaming honours PM Modi's role in Uttar Pradesh's infrastructure development, which the state government credits for its emergence as a model of world-class connectivity. It reflects the BJP-led government's effort to associate major state projects with the Prime Minister's leadership.
