U.S. Ambassador Arrives in Ladakh, Rafts on Zanskar‑Indus Confluence

U.S. Ambassador to India Sergio Gor arrived in Leh for his first visit to Ladakh on 20 August 2026. He participated in a river‑rafting trip that covered several kilometres from Tsogti to the confluence of the Zanskar and Indus rivers at Sangam. Earlier in Srinagar the ambassador met Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and described the region as an important part of India, saying the U.S. would reconsider its travel advisories. The visit follows a period when Ladakh’s tourism sector recorded more than one lakh arrivals in both June and July. It was part of a broader itinerary aimed at experiencing Ladakh’s distinctive landscape and cultural heritage.
