UAE Intercepts Drone From Iran Over Its Waters
· World · The Hindu, The Independent
The United Arab Emirates intercepted a drone coming from Iran over its territorial waters on Monday. The UAE Ministry of Defence said the drone was detected and responded to by the UAE Air Force. The incident comes after the US attacked Iranian rocket launchers on Larak Island in the Strait of Hormuz, prompting retaliation from Tehran. Oil prices jumped more than $1 a barrel on Monday following the US attack and Iran's response. The UAE did not specify the drone's intended target or the exact time of the interception.
Why it matters
The incident raises tensions in the Gulf region, potentially affecting oil prices and regional stability. India, a major importer of oil, may face higher energy costs and supply disruptions.
