UDF Convenor Adoor Prakash Criticises Kerala CM VD Satheesan Over Unilateral Decisions
· India · India Today, Hindustan Times
Kerala's ruling United Democratic Front and Congress have faced internal friction after alliance convenor and Lok Sabha MP Adoor Prakash accused Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan of taking key governance decisions without coalition consultations. Prakash publicly objected to the government appointments of Dr M.K. Muneer as chairman of the Kerala Administrative Reforms Commission and G. Devarajan as State Special Representative in New Delhi, both of whom received cabinet-rank status. The 74-year-old veteran leader claimed that UDF meetings are not being convened and alliance partners learn about major developments only through the media. While CPI(M) state secretary M.V. Govindan stated the remarks prove the UDF is crumbling, Congress MP Rajmohan Unnithan publicly criticised Prakash for airing grievances publicly rather than at party fora.
Why it matters
Public friction between senior leaders threatens the stability of Kerala's newly formed ruling coalition and provides immediate ammunition to the opposition CPI(M).
