· India · The Hindu, NDTV
Leader of the Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin stated on Monday that Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay lacked the locus standi to advise others against making double-meaning comments about women. Speaking to the media in Chennai after staging a walkout from the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, the DMK leader argued that the quality of the films, scenes, and songs in which the Chief Minister had acted contradicted his preaching. Mr. Udhayanidhi also questioned the administration over the assignment of mines and responsibilities to specific individuals, promising to release relevant documents. He further noted that the Speaker had initially agreed to let the opposition speak before denying permission. Additionally, he dismissed the Chief Minister's corruption allegations against the erstwhile DMK government as mere claims lacking evidence.
Why it matters
The public clash between the ruling administration and the opposition Leader in Tamil Nadu signals heightened political friction and sets the stage for further disputes over governance, corruption allegations, and assembly procedures.
