UDP Down To 4 In Meghalaya As Speaker Recognises 8 MLAs' Switch To BJP
· India · NDTV
The United Democratic Party's strength in the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly has dropped to four following the recognition of eight MLAs defecting to the BJP. Meghalaya Assembly Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh accepted the merger of the eight legislators into the BJP camp. The shifting lawmakers include Lahkmen Rymbui, Pius Marwein, Kyrmen Shylla, Mayralborn Syiem, Matthew Beyondstar Kurbah, Ollan Singh Suin, Balajied Kupar Synrem, and Synshar Kupar Roy Lyngdoh Thabah. The mass switch significantly alters the political equations within the ruling coalition and strengthens the BJP's legislative footprint in the northeastern state.
Why it matters
