UIDAI Launches Face Authentication SDK for Seamless Digital Onboarding
· Technology · Indian Express, Business Standard
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has rolled out a new Aadhaar Face Authentication Software Development Kit (SDK) to simplify digital onboarding for banks, fintech, and insurance companies. The SDK allows these entities to integrate Aadhaar-based face authentication directly into their Android and iOS apps, eliminating the need for users to switch between applications. UIDAI Chairman Neelkanth Mishra emphasized that the new system enables local authentication on partner servers, enhancing security while handling up to 25-30 crore daily authentications. Over 600 entities currently use the Aadhaar platform, with the Aadhaar app nearing 6 crore downloads. The launch was announced at the Global Fintech Fest 2026 in Mumbai.
Why it matters
This innovation streamlines digital identity verification for millions of users, improving efficiency for financial and insurance services. By reducing friction in onboarding, it could accelerate financial inclusion and digital transactions, though security concerns around local authentication remain a critical consideration. The move also positions India as a leader in digital identity solutions globally.
