UK Government Plans Ban on Airline Family Seating and Name Change Fees
· World · The Independent, BBC News
The UK government has introduced legislative plans to prevent airlines from charging parents extra fees to sit next to their children on flights. Prime Minister Andy Burnham announced the regulatory changes as part of a wider crackdown on hidden travel costs ahead of next year's summer holiday season. The Civil Aviation Bill currently moving through Parliament will also ban airlines from charging passengers when correcting spelling errors on flight bookings. Under the proposed rules, airlines must seat children under 14 next to an accompanying adult free of charge, avoiding fees that currently reach up to £104 on return journeys. Consumer groups welcomed the move, noting that previous operator practices unfairly penalized families.
