UK-Returned Graduate Kidnaps, Kills Neighbour's Son in Bengaluru

UK-returned MTech graduate Wala Bhaskar Reddy has been arrested for kidnapping and murdering 13-year-old M Prajwal, the son of his former neighbour in Bengaluru's Yelahanka area on Wednesday night. Police allege Reddy planned to extort Rs 1 crore from the boy's realtor father, Manohar, to repay family debts of Rs 3 crore. Reddy lured Prajwal into his SUV on the pretext of buying firecrackers, then with accomplice Edukondalu, a school bus cleaner, bludgeoned the boy to death with a wooden log and hollow bricks at an isolated spot. They recorded a video to send as ransom proof. Reddy, who was drunk, crashed his SUV into an electric pole and two parked cars while transporting the body to Andhra Pradesh; residents caught him and found the body in the boot. Edukondalu remains at large.
