Ukraine Reports Starlink Disruptions Amid Shifting US Relations
· World · India Today, New York Times
Ukraine has reported sudden restrictions on Starlink satellite terminals, which have disrupted military drone operations and air defense systems. Presidential adviser Serhii Beskrestnov stated the timing of the restrictions coincides with a deterioration in relations between Vladimir Zelenskyy and US President Donald Trump. Elon Musk clarified that Starshield, the military-grade version of the service, operates under the authority of the US government and military. The restrictions follow reports of a diesel supply deal between the US and Russia, though the exact link to the Starlink outage remains unconfirmed.
Why it matters
The disruption of satellite communications directly affects Ukraine's ability to conduct defensive military operations, potentially altering the tactical landscape of the ongoing conflict.
