Ukraine Struggles to Counter Russian Ballistic Missiles Amid Exhausted Interceptor Stocks

Kyiv faced an intense wave of Russian drone and ballistic missile attacks between late August and early September, resulting in severe civilian casualties. Ukraine is struggling to counter new high-speed Geran-4 and -5 jet drones that fly at up to 600kph and overwhelm radar networks before missile strikes. The country's supply of Patriot PAC-3 interceptors, which are its only effective counter for ballistic missiles, is all but exhausted. While European allies provided a small number of interceptors that allowed some recent successful interceptions, significant new deliveries are unlikely as United States supplies remain depleted from operations against Iran. Meanwhile, Russia has accelerated production of its lethal Iskander-M and RM-48Us missiles to around 100 units per month.
