Less than 45 percent of available seats for Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions 2026 were filled after the second round of counselling. TNEA authorities reported that slightly under 89,000 students received provisional seat allotments by the end of this round. This represents a 4.5 percent drop in seat allotments compared to the same stage last year, with career counsellors warning of thousands of vacant seats remaining. Computer Science and Engineering and Electronics and Communication Engineering continue to be the most preferred streams among students, though core engineering branches like Mechanical and Electrical engineering saw a marginal uptick in preference. Colleges near urban centers such as Coimbatore and Chennai enjoyed significantly higher demand, while autonomous colleges filled over 80 percent of their seats.
