· Business · The Hindu, Times of India, Indian Express
The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved a proposal on Tuesday to establish the Integrated Transport and Logistics Authority in New Delhi. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced that the newly formed Special Purpose Vehicle will function as an apex body for transport planning, research, project appraisal, and data analytics. The ITLA will formulate a long-term Transport Plan encompassing roads, railways, ports and shipping, civil aviation, inland waterways, coastal shipping, urban mobility, and logistics. The authority is designed to resolve inefficiencies caused by fragmented planning across multiple transport ministries and agencies. Furthermore, the ITLA will evaluate short-term sectoral plans and conduct technical appraisals for government infrastructure projects valued at 500 crore rupees or more.
Why it matters
The new logistics authority aims to streamline multi-modal infrastructure projects and reduce soaring domestic transport costs across Indian industries.
