Unitree’s IPO Surge Highlights China’s Shift to Commercial Humanoid Robots

· World · Economic Times, Yahoo Finance, Bloomberg

Unitree, one of the world’s largest humanoid robot makers, saw its initial public offering more than 8,000 times oversubscribed as it launched on the Shanghai stock market this week. The company will discuss the future of the industry at the World Robot Conference in Beijing, where it is expected to show more than 150 new products among over 2,000 exhibits from more than 300 companies. The conference is being framed as a turning point where investors and customers will evaluate robots for their productivity, cost of supervision and returns, rather than spectacle. While Chinese firms have already deployed humanoids in niche roles such as hotel food delivery and limited factory lines, large‑scale adoption across sectors remains limited. Mitsubishi Electric‑backed startup Lumos Robotics, exhibiting at the event, is focusing its MOS robot on industrial inspection and material handling.

Why it matters

The shift signals that Chinese robotics companies are moving from show‑case prototypes to market‑ready solutions, potentially influencing industrial automation and employment in China and beyond.
