UP Floods Hit 26 Districts, Over 17,500 Evacuated So Far

More than 17,500 people have been evacuated across 26 flood-hit districts in Uttar Pradesh, with no loss of life or livestock reported, the state government said on Friday. Around 3.53 lakh people have been affected overall, and 4,847 people are currently housed in relief shelters, of which 1,312 have been set up statewide. The state has deployed 1,634 flood outposts, 1,697 boats and motorboats, and 1,068 medical teams, distributing over 72,000 food packets and more than 5.5 lakh chlorine tablets. In Chitrakoot, the Mandakini River has receded to 128 metres from its August 29 peak of 135.20 metres, though 13,906 people across 36 villages remain affected there. Financial assistance of ₹7.52 lakh has been transferred to 188 beneficiaries for partial house damage, with more payments being processed.

Why it matters

Nearly 3.53 lakh residents across eastern and central UP face displacement, health risks, and property damage, with livestock and over 45,000 animals also impacted even as relief teams race to deliver food, medical aid, and shelter.
