UP Students Protest School Conditions Across Districts

Students across at least five districts in Uttar Pradesh have taken to the streets to protest against poor school infrastructure, teacher shortages, and inadequate food. In Lucknow, around 200 schoolgirls from Jai Prakash Narayan Sarvodaya Vidyalaya blocked the Lucknow-Dubbaga Bypass in the rain, while similar protests occurred in Unnao, Hamirpur, and Kannauj. The agitations involved students blocking roads and demanding better drinking water, functioning fans, and cleaner campuses. In response to the demonstrations, the Uttar Pradesh government ordered inspections of all 103 residential schools run by the Social Welfare department in the state. Social Welfare Department Minister Asim Arun intervened during one of the protests to hear student grievances directly.
