UP Will Soon Be Divided Into Four Parts, Claims Minister Om Prakash Rajbhar
· India · Indian Express, Zee News
Uttar Pradesh Minister and Suheldev Bhartiya Samaj Party chief Om Prakash Rajbhar has claimed that the state will soon be divided into four distinct regions, with the Purvanchal region getting a Rajbhar Chief Minister. Addressing a public meeting in Ambedkarnagar district on Sunday, Rajbhar stated that he discussed the division and reservation quotas with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He named the proposed regions as Purvanchal, Madhyanchal, Bundelkhand, and Harit Pradesh, asserting that the Purvanchal division will happen after the nationwide caste census. The remarks have revived long-standing regional statehood demands ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections. A similar proposal was passed by the Uttar Pradesh Assembly in 2011 under then-Chief Minister Mayawati's BSP government but failed to secure central approval.
Why it matters
Reviving the statehood debate in Uttar Pradesh alters the political equation ahead of the 2027 assembly polls and impacts caste-based electoral calculations.
