The number of student applications from India to US colleges has declined by 15 percent, according to a report by the Common App. This drop is among the steepest recorded for any country, contributing to an overall 10 percent decrease in international applicants for the 2026-27 academic year. Analysts attribute the trend to stricter immigration policies and limited visa appointment availability. Meanwhile, illegal migration from India to the US has also fallen, with border encounters dropping 69 percent since FY2023.
