US consumers have paid an additional $100 billion for petrol and diesel in the six months since the US-Israel war on Iran started on February 28. This added cost averages roughly $763 per household across an estimated 131 million households nationwide, according to a tracker from Brown University's Watson Institute for International and Public Affairs. Petrol prices have climbed 39 percent from about $2.98 to $4.15 a gallon, while diesel prices have surged over 60 percent from $3.67 to $5.90 a gallon. Fuel prices vary significantly by state, with California recording the highest average petrol price at $5.85 per gallon and Indiana registering the lowest at $3.43. President Donald Trump has dismissed concerns about rising fuel prices while accusing oil companies of price gouging, as the conflict enters its sixth month with no diplomatic breakthrough in sight.
