US Envoy Proposes Deconfliction Mechanism for Syria and Israel

US Ambassador to Turkiye Tom Barrack has suggested establishing a deconfliction mechanism between Turkiye, Syria, and Israel following a suspected Israeli attack on the Abu al-Duhur airbase near Idlib in northwest Syria. The attack, which targeted military infrastructure, was condemned by US and Syrian officials as an unnecessary escalation. Analysts note that Syrian-Israeli talks remain stalled because Israel does not prioritize negotiations with Damascus. Since the overthrow of former President Bashar al-Assad in December 2024, Israel has shifted its focus from Iranian targets to countering Turkish influence in Syria.
