US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor urged New Delhi and Washington to establish predictable taxation and regulatory rules to deepen bilateral trade and investment. Speaking at the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce National Convention 2026, Gor highlighted that bilateral trade in goods and services has grown from $20 billion to over $240 billion over the past two decades. He called for candid discussions on export controls, technology flows, and stronger intellectual property protections to give companies long-term certainty. The statement coincides with the US Senate passing the Lindsey O. Graham Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act of 2026 by an 86–11 vote on August 8. That legislation empowers the US president to impose tariffs of up to 100% on goods from top buyers of Russian oil and gas, though it has not yet become law.
