US Mercenary VanDyke Granted Month-Long Travel Permission

A special NIA court at Rouse Avenue has granted US mercenary Matthew Aaron VanDyke and a Ukrainian national permission to leave Delhi's Tihar Jail for one month. VanDyke and the Ukrainian national were released on Thursday, September 24, to travel to the US and Ukraine and meet their families, subject to conditions and formalities. The court had granted default bail to all seven foreigners, while five other Ukrainian citizens remained in custody. VanDyke and the Ukrainian national were among seven foreigners arrested by the NIA earlier in 2026. The NIA is investigating their involvement in a drone-warfare training camp linked to ethnic armed groups in Myanmar. The reason for the court's staggered release remains unclear.
