US President Trump Shares Concerns Over Weak Yen With Japan’s PM Takaichi

US President Donald Trump discussed concerns over the weakness of the yen during a meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi in New York. Japan’s Finance Minister Satsuki Katayama stated that Prime Minister Takaichi responded by calling the undervalued yen problematic. The two leaders met on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly to discuss security, relations with China, and a $550 billion investment pledge in the US. Following the remarks, the yen strengthened to around 158.33 per dollar in Tokyo. Katayama also noted that she will continue to communicate closely with US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent on foreign exchange issues.
