US Schools Introduce AI Literacy to Combat Chatbot Misinformation

Public schools in the US are increasingly incorporating AI literacy into their curricula to help students identify the limitations of generative AI tools. In Charleston, South Carolina, educators demonstrated the technology's tendency to hallucinate by prompting a chatbot to map the world, which resulted in numerous geographical errors and misspellings. While tech companies like OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic provide training, school districts are developing their own policies to teach students when to avoid using these tools. Currently, 37 states have published official AI guidance to assist schools in managing this transition. The Charleston County School District has independently drafted its own policy to address these challenges.
