USCIS Announces Form Replacements For H-1B Visa Holders And Students
· World · Times of India, Hindustan Times
The US Citizenship and Immigration Services has announced that Form I-539 and Form I-765 will be replaced with new editions starting September 15. The agency will exclusively accept the 09/15/26 edition for both forms, and applications submitted using older versions will be rejected. USCIS stated that no grace period will be available for this transition. The revised forms align with the recently published final rule concerning time periods of admission and extensions of stay for nonimmigrant academic students, exchange visitors, and representatives of foreign information media. Form I-539 is used by nonimmigrant visa holders and dependents to extend or change their status, while Form I-765 allows eligible individuals to apply for work authorization.
Why it matters
H-1B visa holders, students, and their dependents must ensure they use the correct 09/15/26 editions of Form I-539 and Form I-765 to prevent immediate rejection of their immigration and work authorization applications.
