Used Toyota RAV4 Models Selling Above New Prices Due to Hybrid Demand
· Automobile · Wired, ZigWheels
Used 2026 Toyota RAV4 crossover SUVs are currently listing for USD 3,000 to USD 6,000 above brand-new dealership prices in the US, according to data from CarGurus. The surge follows Toyota's decision to drop the gas-powered model last year and transition the vehicle to an all-hybrid lineup. Hybrid demand has driven U.S. hybrid sales up 29 percent in the third quarter of 2026, while Kia's hybrid sales more than doubled. Rising fuel prices, averaging USD 4.40 per gallon nationally and USD 6.36 in California following the conflict in the Strait of Hormuz, are accelerating consumer shift toward fuel-efficient vehicles. Meanwhile, electric vehicle sales have dropped by almost half following the Trump administration's cuts to federal tax credits.
Why it matters
Car buyers face inflated prices for used hybrid models as tight supply and rising fuel costs drive unprecedented demand across the US automotive market.
