Uttar Pradesh Bans Government Jobs for Violent Extremist Group Members
· India · Indian Express, The Hindu
The Uttar Pradesh government has implemented a new policy disqualifying candidates from state jobs if they are members of organizations seeking to change the social order through violent means. Chief Secretary M Devaraj issued the guidelines, which mandate that applicants disclose any history of arrest, prosecution, or conviction in criminal cases. While political ideology remains protected, the policy explicitly excludes individuals with active ties to groups advocating violence, provided the participation occurred after age 21 and within three years of verification. The rules apply to all state government services, public institutions, and autonomous bodies. Pending criminal cases will also be evaluated under this framework as the state prepares for upcoming Assembly polls.
Why it matters
This policy creates a strict screening barrier for thousands of government job aspirants in Uttar Pradesh, directly linking employment eligibility to past organizational affiliations and criminal records.
