· World · PBS, New York Times, The Independent
The Vatican has confirmed that the Pope has been diagnosed with lung cancer and underwent surgery to remove the lower lobe of his right lung. The procedure took place on Tuesday at Rome’s Gemelli hospital and lasted approximately 90 minutes. Medical tests following the operation verified a diagnosis of lung adenocarcinoma, which had been suspected during preoperative screenings. The Vatican stated the surgery was successful with no complications, and the pontiff is currently resting in his hospital room.
