Veeramani's Judicial Custody Extended to Oct 9 in POCSO Case; All-Women SIT Formed

A POCSO Special Court in Chennai on September 25, 2026 extended the judicial custody of octogenarian Gem Granites chairperson R. Veeramani until October 9 in connection with alleged sexual abuse of minor girls. Veeramani, along with alleged accomplices Shanthi and Mahendra Simhan, was arrested on August 29 and remanded to Puzhal Central Prison after the Central Crime Branch registered a case for paedophilia. Earlier the same day, Tamil Nadu police formed an all-women Special Investigation Team to take over the probe. The case originated from a complaint filed on October 6, 2025 by a child rights activist from an Anna Nagar-based NGO. Two senior IPS officers — A. Arun and N. Kannan — were removed from their posts on September 24 and placed on compulsory wait following allegations of inaction when the complaint first surfaced.
