Versova Momo Shop Run by Former Celebrity Driver Shut Down by FDA
· Entertainment · Indian Express, Times of India
The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration suspended the licenses of eight eateries on Monday as part of a festival season encroachment drive, including the popular Suraj Lama Momos in Versova, Mumbai. Owner Suraj Lama spent 25 years working as a celebrity driver for actors including Sonakshi Sinha and Shahid Kapoor before launching his food venture in 2017. He transitioned to selling momos after pivoting away from driving amid the rise of app-based cab services like Ola and Uber. Lama and his wife initially started the eatery using a bicycle before establishing the permanent Andheri West branch. The FDA inspection resulted in the temporary closure of the outlet along with several other food establishments.
Why it matters
The suspension halts operations at a prominent local eatery in Mumbai, affecting daily business and highlighting stricter festival season enforcement by food safety authorities.
