Veteran South Indian Actress Sowcar Janaki Dies at 94

Veteran South Indian actress Sowcar Janaki died on Friday at age 94 in Chennai due to age‑related complications. She had been admitted to Kauvery Hospital in Alwarpet after her health deteriorated earlier that week and received intensive care. The news was confirmed by South Indian Artistes’ Association president Nassar, who said the actress's remains will be laid to rest at Centoph Road, Teyampet from 5 PM. Janaki had one of the longest careers in Telugu, Tamil and Kannada cinema; her last appearance was in the 2023 Telugu film Anni Manchi Sakunamule. She received the Padma Shri in 2022 at age 90 and had also earned Kalaimamani and several Nandi awards.
