Solomon Pappaiah, a highly celebrated Tamil scholar and renowned orator, passed away in Madurai at the age of 90 following an age-related illness. He served The American College Madurai with distinction from 1961 to 1994, where he headed the Department of Tamil. During his tenure, he successfully upgraded the Undergraduate programme into a full-fledged Postgraduate Department in 1986. The Government of India honoured him with the Padma Shri award in 2021 for his immense service to literature. He leaves behind a daughter and a son.
