Vidya Balan Makes Tamil Film Debut In Rajinikanth Action Thriller Jailer 2
· Entertainment · Indian Express, Pinkvilla
Actor Vidya Balan has joined the cast of Nelson Dilipkumar's action thriller Jailer 2, marking her full-fledged debut in Tamil cinema alongside Rajinikanth. At the start of her career two decades ago, she faced setbacks when several regional film projects dropped her after a Malayalam film opposite Mohanlal was shelved, leading to her being mistakenly labeled a jinx. Her previous appearance in Tamil cinema was limited to a single song and cameo in the 2019 courtroom drama Nerkonda Paarvai. In Jailer 2, she plays Kantha, one of the primary antagonists confronting Rajinikanth's character Muthuvel Pandian. She accepted the role after scheduling conflicts caused her to miss an earlier opportunity to work alongside the veteran star.
Why it matters
The casting marks a significant return for Vidya Balan to Tamil cinema after early-career industry setbacks, pairing her directly with superstar Rajinikanth.
