Vijay Announces Vehicle Allowances and Health Coverage Boost for TN MLAs
· India · Times of India, ndtv, India Today
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay unveiled a package giving every MLA a government vehicle and a monthly vehicle allowance of Rs 75,000, plus an additional Rs 25,000 to hire an assistant, after VCK MLA Jothimani highlighted logistical gaps. The CM Health Insurance Scheme will raise the treatment limit from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 25 lakh. The state has earmarked Rs 351 crore to add 6,098 seats in government medical and nursing colleges, including 660 BSc nursing seats and 1,925 nursing college seats. Seven new nursing colleges will open and a 400‑bed multi‑speciality hospital in Perambalur will cost about Rs 300 crore. The expanded insurance also covers medical and surgical services for transgender patients in selected Chennai, Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Chengalpattu, Thiruvarur, Karur and Kanyakumari hospitals.
Why it matters
The allowance will directly ease MLA travel and constituency work, while the higher health coverage expands access to specialist care for Tamil Nadu residents, particularly transgender patients.
