Villa's Johan Manzambi Shows Newcastle What They Missed Out On
· Sports · BBC Sport
Switzerland midfielder Johan Manzambi scored his third goal in Aston Villa colours with the winner in a 1-0 victory over Newcastle at St James' Park on Saturday. Manzambi had looked set for a move to Newcastle before opting to join Unai Emery's side in a club record deal of just over £50m in the summer. The 21-year-old headed in an unmarked effort from eight yards out following a cross from Joao Gomes. Manzambi previously found the back of the net in a 3-2 win at Tottenham and a 6-0 victory over Fenerbahce in the Champions League. His performances have earned him a nomination for the Kopa Trophy, awarded to the world's best player aged under 21.
Why it matters
Johan Manzambi's strong form strengthens Aston Villa's campaign under Unai Emery and validates the club's record investment following his summer transfer.
