Villagers Protest After Youth Manikantha’s Death; Police Alleged Torture

In Kondakenguva village, residents staged a protest demanding the suspension of police officers and compensation after 25‑year‑old Manikantha died in August 2026. The youth was arrested on Aug 7 for a jewelry‑theft charge and admitted to a community health centre in Saluru on Aug 8 after his health declined. He was later transferred to a private hospital in Vizianagaram where he died on Monday. Family members claim he was severely beaten by police, an allegation the district superintendent of police, S.V. Madhav Reddy, refuted, saying the death was caused by high fever and other health complications. Villagers say they will continue to agitate until a formal investigation and appropriate action are taken.
