Volvo Discontinues EX40 Electric SUV After Two Years

Volvo has officially confirmed the cancellation of its EX40 electric compact luxury SUV, with the 2026 model year serving as the final version available in the United States. The decision follows consistently low sales figures for the electric variant, which were significantly outperformed by the gas-powered XC40 model. Although the EX40 nameplate existed for only two years, the vehicle was previously sold as the XC40 Recharge from 2021 through 2024. Volvo intends to replace the model with a new electric vehicle, the EX50, which is expected to launch in the fall of 2027 for the 2028 model year. The upcoming EX50 will utilize the new SPA3 platform and is projected to carry a starting price of approximately $40,000.
