Walmart Pledges Not to Use Personal Data for Pricing as Digital Labels Expand

· Business · The Independent, Fortune

Walmart CEO John Furner announced that the retailer does not use personal information such as income or shopping history to set prices, and will not do so in the future. The commitment arrives as Walmart rolls out digital price labels across its stores to replace paper tags and lower labor costs. Furner stated that prices will also not be adjusted based on the time of day or immediate consumer demand. The company confirmed that its artificial intelligence shopping assistant Sparky will adhere to the same policy and will not raise prices or conceal lower-cost options. Walmart reported in March that 2,300 US stores already use digital shelf labels and expects nationwide adoption within the next year.
