Wangchuk Says CJP Founders Have Political Ambitions, Calls It Healthy
· India · Hindustan Times, Times of India
Activist Sonam Wangchuk said the founders of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) — Abhijeet Dipke, Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka — have political ambitions, an assessment he made during the nearly two-month-long Jantar Mantar protest in Delhi demanding the removal of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Speaking on a podcast with Prakhar Gupta, the 59-year-old Wangchuk said he had no objection to their ambitions and would welcome more young leaders entering politics. However, he told the CJP founders to keep the student movement free of any party agenda while he was on stage. Wangchuk also dismissed criticism that Dipke's past association with the Aam Aadmi Party was a concern, saying prior party work is not disqualifying.
Why it matters
Wangchuk's remarks signal a possible post-protest realignment of the youth movement, with CJP leaders likely to formalise political careers while activists and student groups watch whether the platform stays apolitical.
