Wasim Jaffer backs Bhuvneshwar Kumar's India T20I recall based on merit
· Sports · Times of India, Sportstar, India Today
Former India batter Wasim Jaffer strongly supports Bhuvneshwar Kumar's selection for the T20I series against New Zealand, stating the pacer earned his spot through performances and fitness, not favour. At 36, Bhuvneshwar has been recalled for the five-match series starting October 22, with Jaffer questioning why the experienced seamer was dropped earlier despite consistent IPL and Uttar Pradesh displays. Jaffer argues age should be set aside, emphasizing that India needs a mix of experience and youth, particularly with Bhuvneshwar's 87 T20I wickets and ability to guide younger pacers. The series runs from October 22 to November 1 across Christchurch, Wellington, and Auckland.
Why it matters
Jaffer's endorsement validates Bhuvneshwar's recall as a merit-based decision, highlighting the importance of experience in India's T20 setup ahead of the New Zealand series.
