West Bengal Fire Department Issues 48-Hour Sealing Notice for Abhishek Banerjee's Camac Street Office

The West Bengal Fire and Emergency Services Directorate has served a show-cause notice threatening to evacuate and seal the sixth and seventh floors of a multi-storeyed building at 9, Camac Street in Central Kolkata within 48 hours. The premises currently serve as party offices for Trinamool Congress national general secretary and MP Abhishek Banerjee, who leased the two floors. The action follows an August 31 inspection by fire department officials that uncovered critical safety violations posing an imminent fire hazard. Official documents revealed that the building's Renewal of Fire Safety Certificate expired on August 10, violating Section 11C of the West Bengal Fire Services Act, 1950. Inspecting officers also found an illegal mild steel structure over the driveway obstructing fire engines, unapproved LPG cylinders stored in the seventh-floor cafeteria, non-functional fire alarm systems, and compromised emergency infrastructure.
