· India · The Hindu, Indian Express
The West Bengal government formed a six-member Special Investigation Team on Wednesday to probe the September 27 violence at the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute campus in Kolkata. Led by Kunal Agrawal, Additional Commissioner of Kolkata Police (Crime), the SIT is mandated to submit its first report by October 1. Clashes erupted after members of the right-wing consumer group Akhil Bharatiya Grahak Panchayat held an event inside the campus auditorium, leading to confrontations with institute students and multiple injuries. Kolkata Police registered three FIRs based on complaints filed by the film dean, the ABGP provincial head, and a local police officer. Both student groups and ABGP representatives blamed each other for disrupting proceedings and escalating tensions.
