Meta-owned messaging platform WhatsApp has introduced new security updates, including enhanced context for unknown callers and stronger two-factor authentication options. Android users receiving calls from unsaved numbers can now see whether the caller is from a different country and if they share any WhatsApp groups. Users can also replace their traditional six-digit verification PIN with an alphanumeric password to prevent account takeovers. Additionally, cross-platform users on Android and iOS can now add multiple passkeys to log in using biometric verification such as fingerprints or face IDs. These features arrive as rival apps like Signal and Telegram also step up account security amid rising phishing attempts.
