Who is Shahzad Bhatti? Pakistan-based terror group leader's network busted before Independence Day

· India · Hindustan Times, NDTV, The Hindu

Home Minister Amit Shah announced that more than 200 suspects tied to Shahzad Bhatti’s network were arrested ahead of Independence Day. The Ministry of Home Affairs recorded over 80 FIRs and arrests under the UAPA, Arms Act, NDPS Act and Explosive Substances Act. Seized items included IEDs, grenades with Pakistan Ordnance Factory markings, pistols, live cartridges and espionage CCTV cameras, confirming cross‑border links. Bhatti, a gangster‑turned‑terror handler, is accused of masterminding a 2025 grenade attack on YouTuber Roger Sandhu’s home, an IED blast at Ambala police station and a grenade attack at Nalagarh police station in cooperation with Babbar Khalsa International. The Shahzad Bhatti Network is described as ISI‑backed, operating from Pakistan and the Gulf, using encrypted communications to recruit and coordinate attacks. The government states the crackdown is a pre‑emptive strike to thwart subversive attacks on Independence Day.

Why it matters

The arrests reduce the operational capacity of a cross‑border terror syndicate that has targeted police, defence and religious sites in India, protecting citizens and national security.
