Aam Aadmi Party ministers and legislators in Punjab have adopted a visibly softer approach towards protesting employees and farmers after facing mounting criticism over law and order issues. On September 13, Cabinet Minister and AAP Punjab president Aman Arora directed officials to remove barricades and water cannons outside his residence in Sunam to hold direct talks with demonstrators from the Sanjha Mulazam and Pensioners Front. This marked a sharp departure from his September 8 warning of "no work, no pay" issued to government employees agitating for the restoration of the Old Pension Scheme and pending dearness allowance arrears. A similar easing of restrictions occurred on September 12 outside the Garhshankar residence of Deputy Speaker Jai Krishan Singh Rouri when employee union members arrived to press their demands.
