Why Sena Minister Pratap Sarnaik Opened Voter Fraud Front Against BJP
· India · Indian Express, Deccan Herald
Maharashtra Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik has alleged massive irregularities in the voter list, claiming it directly benefited the BJP in the January 2026 Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation elections. In that civic poll, the BJP won 78 of the 95 seats while the Shiv Sena secured only three seats. Sarnaik stated that the electorate in the Mira-Bhayandar Assembly constituency dropped from 5.14 lakh to 3.01 lakh following the Special Intensive Revision. He claimed that duplicate and fraudulent voters aided the BJP, citing 2,13,045 entries identified for deletion, 47,901 unmapped voters, and 48,379 discrepancies. BJP MLA Narendra Mehta dismissed the allegations as ridiculous, questioning why Sena leaders used the exact same electoral rolls during the polls. Workers from both parties attribute the clash to the long-standing political rivalry between Sarnaik and Mehta for control of Mira-Bhayandar.
Why it matters
The public feud between allied leaders in Mira-Bhayandar exposes underlying friction within the ruling coalition in Maharashtra and escalates local competition for territorial control.
