Why was the Asian Games 2026 flag-hoisting ceremony delayed?

· Sports · Times of India, Sportstar

The flag-hoisting ceremony for six contingents, including India, Yemen, North Korea, Palestine, Chinese Taipei and Timor-Leste, was delayed by more than an hour at Garden Pier ahead of the 20th Asian Games in Nagoya, Japan. Organisers attributed the disruption to miscommunication between the Olympic Council of Asia executive board and the Games organising committee. The event was originally scheduled for 1:30 pm local time before being repeatedly pushed back, with delegations sent away from the stage during the proceedings. Chef de mission Sahdev Yadav and several deputy chefs de mission represented India at the venue, while no Indian athletes were in attendance. Yadav stated that organisers are addressing wider logistical issues by booking extra hotel rooms and deploying airport officials to assist delegations.

Why it matters
